We Are All Fossils - “Ocean Blue”

South Africa-born, England-based singer-songwriter We Are All Fossils has just released the soulful indie folk track “Ocean Blue.”

Reverent and meditatively reflective, “Ocean Blue” is a beautiful indie folk track with a carefully crafted arrangement that is nothing short of immersive and tastefully polished. What is noticeable is the amount of restraint in the musical elements; each instrument is allowed to breathe openly and flourish into something that is simply stunning.

Warm acoustic guitar lays the foundation, with banjo added in places in a way that reminds me of sunlight flickering on the open water. At the midway point, drums ground the airy composition with a steady heartbeat. The groove helps to bring a quiet resolve and direction to the poignant and emotionally unguarded lyrics.

What truly anchors the composition is the tender vocal from We Are All Fossils. Soft, slightly weathered and sensitive, the delivery blossoms with passion as the track reaches its final stages. Surrounded by excellent harmonies throughout, it is a bittersweet performance that envelopes around you with ease.

On the track, the artist says: “Ocean Blue paints the picture of rushing to the sea, hoping to find what you know to be lost. The ocean feels endless, always moving... a continuum of life but it also carries things away. That pull and push of the tides runs through this song, admitting the raw truth: I still need you.”

Honest, luminous and achingly emotive, “Ocean Blue” is an elegant indie folk track that lingers long after the final note. Connect with We Are All Fossils: Instagram | Spotify | Facebook | X
