From Seattle, waltzerr arrive with a hefty dose of ‘90s alt-rock flavor with their new single “ciggy b.”
Amid a wall of seemingly endless power chords, an earworm guitar melody pushes through the arrangement, offering listeners an irresistible pop flavor. Out of the gate, “ciggy b” sounds like something Lindsey Jordan would have written if she had been inspired by Veruca Salt. The song practically demands to be blasted from your car stereo loud enough for the entire neighborhood to enjoy.
With subject matter that details the misery at the end of a relationship, vocalist Emily Waltzer delivers a dynamically upbeat performance that effortlessly navigates the desire for closure. But if you’re able to set the lyrical content aside, “ciggy b” is an upbeat ball of alternative fire that comes complete with glorious backing vocals and a breakdown at the midpoint that offers ebb and flow for days.
