HOOGENBOOM - “The Violinist”

The beautifully lovely song, “The Violinist,” has just been released by HOOGENBOOM, who is the California-based singer-songwriter Brandon Hoogenboom. We keep featuring him, simply because he is such a shining talent. Due to the vocal melodies, I am immediately drawn to similarities to The Beach Boys. Additionally, I’m picking some elements of Paul McCartney’s solo work, particularly his album RAM. I also hear hints of The Beatles’ mid-1960s sounds in the bass and the laid-back percussion.

The acoustic guitar serves as the song’s fundamental structural support. However, this track is not at all acoustic for me– it is so much more! The song has some incredible atmospherically rich parts and the tempo seems to effortlessly evolve along with the dreamy melody.

As Brandon narrates the consequences of a friendship in his lyrics, the song is oozing a real melancholic feel to it. The lyrics are reflective and filled with emotion, yet there is a carefree feel, as if the content is a distant memory. This is definitely for fans of The Beach Boys and The Beatles.
