Killer Cashew - “Untitled Love Song”

I’m a big fan of Killer Cashew and I absolutely adore how they can combine traditional indie sounds with novel ones, creating new, instant classics… and “Untitled Love Song,” their latest release, ticks all the right boxes. It is catchy, cool, and a decent slice of traditional indie pop.

An artificial drum beat that almost resembles a toy/ Blur’s “Lot 105” opens the song. That nod to the masters of classic “Britpop” kinda sums up the song. It’s joined quickly by an odd sound... I have no idea what it is... It sounds Eastern, it’s probably keys, but it is certainly inspired.

The mid-90s Britpop indie style quickly progresses when the song fully kicks in a few seconds later. The guitars are clean and twangy and surround the lyrics and drums perfectly. The bass gives the song a good push and is a lovely element to the song. The vocals are excellent and have a wonderful lively vibe and a great tone. I’m reminded of Suede when the backing vocals sing the “la la la’s”… there is a definite Brett Anderson tone there.

The band describe the vibe that is captured in “Untitled Love Song:” “I guess we've all been there. Life seems like it's stuck in repeat, and the same boring and grey day is just going over and over again. But suddenly, everything is turned upside down. Out of nowhere you hear birds singing like they do in the old Disney movies, it feels like hot fudge sauce is running through your veins, and all the colours around you seems to be oversatured.”
