Unknown Vagabond - “Falling Consciously”

From Winterthur, Switzerland, Unknown Vagabond has brought us the authentic warmth of his craft upon the release of “Falling Consciously.”

Pressing play shall provide you with the lo-fi sounds of gentle and melancholic acoustic guitar, strewn across the top of some room noise. The sound is at first very intimate and almost demo-like, as though we’ve stumbled across an idea that was quickly captured in the voice memos of Unknown Vagabond’s phone. However, that ambience quickly fades, leaving us with just the delicate guitar performance, padded by the ethereal relics of subtle digital effects.

The vocal appears, wonderfully double-tracked and instantly captivating with its sense of emotional honesty. Layers of harmonies soon emerge upon the arrival of the refrain, allowing “Falling Consciously” to wrap its aural arms around the soundscape, significantly widening the production as it envelops your listening experience. An effected guitar joins the arrangement, followed by the deep and melodic foundation of the bass, ensuring that we remain engaged with multiple servings of ear candy.

It is not at all difficult to get lost inside of the track’s steady and natural crescendo, with moments that are bound to leave you recalling the first time you fell in love with Bon Iver, Radiohead, and/ or Elliott Smith. The final third invites the glory of a vintage-tinged rhythm, providing the cherry to the top of “Falling Consciously,” ultimately bringing us back for multiple listens. This song is ideal for those essential moments of quiet introspection and will carry you away on a five-minute escape from another workweek.
