New York City-based duo Um, Jennifer? have just released “Glamour Girl.” The track has a strikingly vintage, new-wave punk-rock vibe, with musical tones that are reminiscent of Blondie, crossed with The Velvet Underground. Sounds awesome, doesn’t it?

Glamour Girl” is pushed along by a steady drum beat with a thick bass that pulsates with an enthusiastic sense of energy. The song is dressed with some rich guitar layers; jangly weaving guitar lines, fuzzed out chords, warm grooves, and mellow acoustic guitar all contribute to the quirky, infectious energy of this wonderful track. Little splashes of synths also inject a pleasing sense of vintage experimentation, resulting in delightfully fun and catchy number.

The vocal performance is charmingly expressive and feels authentic and unique. The somewhat conversational delivery effortlessly shifts from reflective intimacy to cool, nonchalant, swaggering fun. In a way, “Sweet Jane,” by The Velvet Underground, has the same vibes. Speaking on the new song, the band say: “‘Glamour Girl’ is about relationship patterns. It’s about beauty, charm, and how we delude ourselves.”

Glamour Girl” comes ahead of the band’s forthcoming EP, The Girl Class, due April 5, 2024, via Final Girl Records.
