Transviolet - “Love and Power”

Not gonna lie– Transviolet has a new song that is far too big for you and your mortal earholes. The amount of sonic space occupied by “Love and Power” is only paralleled by its subject matter, as lead vocalist Sarah McTaggart takes the listener on a journey through a toxic relationship involving a skewed power dynamic. The truth is that this track could be in any other language and still be just as moving– McTaggart’s voice is simply that good.

The first half of this electro-pop voyage is moody and immense, like falling overboard and treading water in an endless sea of dark secrets that many would find too painful to flesh out into lyrics. Then, at two minutes in, a sudden wave of guitars comes crashing down and completely drags you to the depths. I feel terrible for spoiling that part for you, but you really should have a chance to brace yourselves and, for some reason, this song does not come with a warning label or lifejacket. “Love and Power” will definitely be worth paying the extra service fees to catch live, which you can do next month as Transviolet embarks on a tour across the US with Mother Mother and Sir Sly.
