Tommy Ashby - “Not That Far To Go”

Tommy Ashby has the rare gift of writing songs that already sound like they’re in movies. His latest effort is no exception. “Not That Far To Go” is even titled as though it should be shuffled into the decks of Hollywood soundtracks, and within the first few seconds, after pressing play on this number, the listener can already imagine the end credits rolling on some yet-to-be-released coming-of-age story.

Not That Far To Go” is exquisitely produced, and when you combine that with Ashby’s superb songwriting and performance, the sky is really the limit, as it blurs the lines between folk and pop and everything in between. He has cast himself into the singer-songwriter genre and we would tend to agree, though fans of Hollow Coves and City and Colour will not be anywhere near disappointed. This is the kind of song that you’ll hear and then wonder where you’ve heard it before– that was our reaction when it was first submitted to us. “Not That Far To Go” has the ability to provide the instant feelings of calmness and empowerment, in a world where there is an obvious lack of both.

We will not turn this post into a list of Ashby’s accomplishments because, quite frankly, we do not have enough space on the blog to contain them all. For fear of breaking the internet, let’s just say that if you can’t shake why his voice sounds so familiar, you may have heard it on Grey’s Anatomy, The Innocents, Midnight Texas, or Silent Witness.

And for those of you who are walking the ledge between an anxiety attack and the pits of despair, here’s the lyric video to provide you with a bit of strength:

And while you’re still here, do not miss his video for “A Beautiful Day” because you might just end up having one:

We did not forget about all of you Spotify users! Here is a direct link to Tommy’s profile as well as the single, “Not That Far To Go.”
