Tom Webber - “Keep Calling”

Oxford-based singer-songwriter Tom Webber is back on the blog with “Keep Calling,” an energetic pop-rock tune about bidding farewell to a friendship.

Most of us have been there; as we move on with our lives, we sometimes realize that we do not have much in common with the people we once called friends. And while this subject matter is on the darker side of life, that does not stop Webber from wrapping it up in an upbeat package.

Pressing the play button immediately fills your ears with a full-band arrangement, including drums, bass, guitar, and keys– there’s even a sweet, ’80s-inspired synth that chimes out a melody from atop the production. The rhythm possesses an energy that is guaranteed to instantly get your feet tapping.

Webber’s vocal is on point, and the more we listen to his music, the more we realize this is par for his craft. His voice presents a vibe that will allow his work to warmly resonate among fans of Kings of Leon, Coldplay, or Interpol. On the hook, a layered harmony appears to elevate the entire performance.

For the third verse, layers are peeled away to reveal an ethereally-charged arrangement, which is something that has left us returning to “Keep Calling.” This dynamic variation supplies the track with an exquisite sense of ebb and flow, especially when the rest of the elements reappear for the final refrain.

Keep Calling” is a gem of a pop-rock tune and we would not be the least bit surprised if it wound up on international airwaves. It entails a difficult conversation to have with someone whom you once called a friend, but it’s just so catchy that this contrast is quite delicious.
