The Orielles - “The Room”

The Room” comes from The Orielles’s upcoming LP, Tableau, and although there are some melodic parallels to their past work, the sharp aesthetics and wider range of aspirations in this track give them the impression of being a new band. The dynamic shifts in this song sound like cuts between the frames of a movie, giving it a cinematic air. This mood is undoubtedly produced by their choices in instrumentation: a flowing bass line, melodic keys and synthesizer parts, midi strings, and quick percussion beats that pause often to create reflecting breaks. The lead guitar emphasizes the song’s upbeat vibe. The vocals change dynamically throughout the entire song– sometimes, they are said in a casually assured manner; other times, they are more like a whisper, and still, other times, they are sung in order to give the lyrics more weight. I also like the rotating use of effects on the vocal, such as stereo delay and wider ear candy that has been placed in the mix like a wind chime. Even though they are incorporating ideas from many different places, the final product feels wonderfully original.

“The Room” is available now on all DSPs, including Apple and Spotify. You can pre-save and order their full length, Tableau, here, available everywhere Oct 7. And, in case you missed it, they also have a video available for their previous single, “Beam/s,” which is well worth your time:
