The Bankes Brothers - “Walkin’”

Victoria, BC-based four-piece The Bankes Brothers are a folk-rocking musical force that everyone must experience. Luckily, they’ve just released a new single, “Walkin’,” which we simply cannot get enough of.

Upon pressing play, it is immediately apparent that you’re dealing with some top-shelf musicians who know their way around a recording studio. The rich, vintage-tinged arrangement is completely brimming with an authentic thickness akin to the 1970s, most notable in the creaminess of the rhythm section.

Guitars– both acoustic and electric– are panned to opposite  sides of the track, offering a delicious width to “Walkin’,” which is a true delight to have bursting through your headphones. But then there are the vocals, which behold a presence that is gloriously akin to that of Nathaniel Rateliff– the performance is confident and controlled, with nary a sign of any digital manipulation.

In its close-to-four-minute duration, “Walkin’” takes you on a free-spirited, mellifluous joyride of total auditory jubilation, with a good dose of grit to boot. It has likely been intentionally crafted to make you happy you’re alive, and we dare you to hear it and think otherwise, as it is scientifically impossible. “Walkin’” comes from The Bankes Brothers’ new EP, In Waves, which is now available everywhere:
