That Summer - “We’ve Already Said Goodbye”

With a resumé that includes touring alongside established punk outfits, such as NOFX, Lagwagon, No Use For A Name, and Bad Religion, it is no surprise that Charles Rocha has delivered a winner by way of his band That Summer. The single, “We’ve Already Said Goodbye,” was co-written with Max Bergmanis and features the drumming of Tom Petty’s Steve Ferrone.

“We’ve Already Said Goodbye” is here to get you in the feels as you sing along. Heartbreak is a reliably relatable source for great tunes. I am truly sorry that humans have to feel the pain of caring too much about other people, but I’m also very grateful for the tunes that get made from such a mess of emotions. Strong melodies give this track a bit of a pop vibe and the the ascending melodic line of the chorus is quite catchy, reinforcing my feelings that this song is ready to break into some charts as people find themselves singing along and hitting repeat.

Musically, the well-produced combination of synth, organ, piano, and guitars play all the right notes and modulate wonderfully in the bridge. A short and sweet guitar solo with just the right amount of notes tops things off nicely, preparing us for the return to the chorus. This is a well written tune that is sure to please listeners of alternative rock-based pop music. Take a listen to hear what I mean.

“We've Already Said Goodbye” comes from the band’s forthcoming debut full-length, due out in 2023.
