Taylor Bradshaw - “Unkind”

Taylor Bradshaw has just released the indie folk stunner “Unkind.” It is a song is about a breakup between a man and a woman and about how justifications are found for our actions when, in reality, we are just doing what we want to do. This narrative is expressed in the form of a phone call that poses the query “will we ever speak again after this?” There is isolation and deep emotion that are expressed through the excellently crafted lyrics.

The song's structure, as a whole, is based on an acoustic finger-picking pattern, which gives it a dreamy and reflective quality. Each instrument that is added has been carefully chosen: a simple kick drum, key effects, mellotron pad, and an electric guitar. However, these components never overpower the mix and give Taylor's stunning vocal the proper amount of room to narrate the sense of loss of something good. This is an excellent slice of melancholy.
