Taylor Bickett – “Good Thing Short”

From Nashville, singer-songwriter Taylor Bickett has released “Good Thing Short,” the latest single from her forthcoming LP Nothing I Can’t Undo.

Good Thing Short” is a confident, commercially polished slice of vulnerable folk, opening with the raw and intimate strums of an acoustic guitar. The vibe is immediately melancholic and reflective as Bickett’s vocals arrive, carrying a modern, confessional performance that sits comfortably alongside artists such as Kacey Musgraves and Waxahatchee.

The refrain brings the first hints of the rhythm section, punctuating the top of each bar as we’re spoon-fed that delicious hook: “I’m a runner, I’m a lover, then a leaver,” a line that’s bound to become this summer’s earworm. From there, the arrangement expands into a full-band production, with a gentle, vintage-kissed beat and dazzling vocal harmonies.

Cloaked in folk-pop texture, the song traverses themes of self-sabotage. Bickett explains: “I wrote ‘Good Thing Short’ about that feeling at the start of a new relationship, one that brings peace and comfort like never before. With the beauty and excitement also comes the fear of messing it up. This song is a plea to myself: don’t do that thing you always do, don’t cut this good thing short.”

Nothing I Can’t Undo is due for release on July 17, but you are now free to enjoy “Good Thing Short” wherever you get your music.
