Tall Blonde - “Try”

Tall Blonde wastes no time bending your ear with “Try.” Vocals start the track that builds into a grooving, soulful jam. I’m reminded of this bar I once visited in Silver Lake. Picture, if you will, puffy vinyl booths surrounding a vintage cherry wood bar, with the glassware hanging from racks. All around as the room is a deep red hue, seemingly lit by the smiles of the rarely-seen, unpretentious Hollywood crowd. Much like this song, it’s a vibe that is as exciting as it is relaxing.

With low end on the boom-pap beat that will rattle all but the best-built cabinets and a bass line that is as smart as it is smooth, the foundation for “Try” is as thick as freshly poured concrete. Foundations are key, but it’s always the vocal that opens the door. And oh boy, do these vocals open doors! They open doors, windows, and minds with an enchanting quality and captivating feel. Not only do they sound great, but the chorus is fantastic and the variations to the main hooks are expertly arranged. The lyrics are just as great as their exquisite delivery, dealing with how to break free from bad habits in order to find your power. With one listen to this song, I think it’s obvious what Tall Blonde’s power is: making great tunes.

We would like to leave you with an interesting perspective from Frithiof Stenvall, aka Tall Blonde: “When I look at the world, I kind of do not want to be involved… I try to be more impulsive than the world allows. More organism and less algorithm. It sometimes feels like I'm floating around like a ghost trying to recognize myself.”
