Sun Way Street - “Burn It Down”

Sun Way Street, an Irish/American duo featuring singer-songwriter Steven Eli and multi-instrumentalist Leor Manelis, have just released “Burn It Down.” The track is dynamic and brimmed full of contrasts, with a satisfying familiarity– like all good indie pop / rock ear-worms.

Burn It Down” grabs your attention immediately with a staccato key groove that forms the track’s main hook. The tones are slightly acidic and gorgeously bright as they pulse away. The drums establish a relaxed cadence whilst the bass pulses warmly and deeply underneath. Just as we are getting acclimated, the layers peel back to mellow acoustic guitar. This fosters a feeling of intimacy, but also space, allowing the vocals and lyrics to breathe.

The contrasts of intimacy, followed by large swaggering bursts of moody dynamics, push us enjoyably through the composition. There is a feeling of grandeur as the listener navigates these energetic waves. The standout element, for me, is the way in which electric guitar is used to enhance the track’s sonic landscape. The tones shift between dark, driving layers to clean, warbling licks that subtly enhance the richness of the music.

The vocals are similarly filled with texture and contrasts. Shifting from intimacy to bursts of exploding passion and enhanced by various vocal filters, the whole performance is sublime.

Burn It Down,” by Sun Way Street, can only be described as an engaging treat for the listener.  The production and attention to detail is second to none and you truly should not miss out on getting this one into your ears.
