Steve Stout – “some birds”

Nashville’s Steve Stout has just released “some birds,” the lead single from his forthcoming LP.

The new record was completely written, recorded, and mixed in Stout’s basement studio, aptly dubbed "shabby road." Once you press play, the Beatles reference makes complete sense. Opening with a warm electric piano, “some birds” is brought to life by the bounce of its rhythm section. Right out of the gate, the song is drenched in McCartney-tinged sounds, channeling the melodic charm and easygoing spirit of yesteryear.

This vibe does not begin and end with the arrangement, as Stout’s voice itself bears an uncanny resemblance to the Fab Four. His vocal performance arrives like the soundtrack to youthful daydreams, carrying a sense of possibility and innocence that many of us leave behind with age. Even if you were not around in the late ‘60s, “some birds” makes you wish you had been.

The track seems to know no sonic bounds, ever expanding as it rolls forward. Adding yet another layer of depth to the soundscape, Jordan Lehning’s string and woodwind arrangements are seamlessly woven into the production. “some birds” is a two-minute-and-forty-second escape into a mellifluous world that seems to be getting harder and harder to reach these days. We recommend more than one listen.
