Stefan J. Selbert - “Lend a Hand”

Los Alamos, California-based singer-songwriter and cattle-rancher Stefan J. Selbert has arrived on our blog with the heartfelt and stripped-back sounds of “Lend a Hand.”

The foundation of this track is supplied by a duet of acoustic guitars– one strums out the song’s rhythm, while the other employs a series of hammer-ons and pull-offs to provide an enchanting melody. Instead of panning them to opposing sides, Selbert has made use of a wide spread on the rhythm and thrown the melody straight to the top. The resulting sound is bound to truly captivate all listeners, and especially those utilizing headphones.

And while “Lend a Hand” is quite sparse in its arrangement, it is heavy and robust in its vibe– Selbert’s vocal performance cements this deal, with lines that drape across the soundscape in an honest and endearing manner. His voice has that authentic, worn-in sound that we so often seek within the folk songs that land in our stack of submissions. The only additional element is the subtle vocal harmony that drifts in and out of the production, decorating the track in a soft and sweet layer of ear candy.

This is the first we’re hearing from Selbert under the Stefan J. Selbert moniker, but we sincerely hope that it’s not the last, as we very much look forward to featuring his future releases. Until then, take “Lend a Hand” for a spin and marvel at its delightfully raw and spirited sense of storytelling.
