Starbenders - “Cherry Wine”

USA-based glam/punk band Starbenders have given us the insanely good “Cherry Wine,” a good, old-fashioned rock ‘n’ roll anthem that doesn’t let you down.

Bright acoustic guitar forms the rhythmic backbone of this rocker. The tones are gentle and add a nice, soft layer of texture. Electric piano with bell-like airy tones hazily and dreamily fleshes out the song’s melody, whilst drums begin to propel the song forward with a swaying beat. Over the verses, electric guitar and bass punctuate the lyrics with a staccato groove. This also helps build anticipation for the lofty and anthemic chorus sections.

The dynamics of the song satisfyingly grow as we enter the chorus. The bass lends a deep, round foundation., electric guitars enhance the breezy groove while also providing width, and the anthemic vibes are impossible to ignore. The song ebbs and flows gorgeously and unstoppably. The staccato groove returns as we hit the second verse, getting you ready to belt out the next chorus as it arrives.

The musical interlude helps to create more contrast as the guitars begin to groove and shimmer. Hand claps add to the anthemic qualities of the track, as synths give splashes of additional texture. Starbenders then bring home the last chorus with a satisfying, roof-raising crescendo.

The compelling vocal delivery is the real star of the show. The breathy, luscious tones and delicate nuances draw you in effortlessly. In places, the vocals have a great raspy, smoky, and sultry appeal, which reminds me of Stevie Nicks. But the real magic arrives during the choruses, where the delivery projects with force, lifting these sections magically.

Cherry Wine,” by the Starbenders, is a song that is guaranteed to blow you off of your feet. Intimate verses and powerful choruses will leave you wanting more.
