Jordan Sommerlad - “Too Much?”

Ah yes, I love it when music calms and excites me at the same time. Jordan Sommerlads new song “Too Much?” gets the right amount of blood flowing by combining energetic grooves and a pleasing mellowness. This indie rock cruiser is reminiscent of Death Cab for Cutie in the most delicious way. Vocals float splendidly over a bass-drum groove that propels the verse nicely into a halftime chorus that opens up beautifully and is super satisfying.

There is a lovely addition of a second vocalist in the second verse. I’m not the most accurate lyric analyzer, but it seems as though he wants to tell a special someone about his special feelings and is struggling with insecurity. If there is one thing I can relate to, it’s insecurity. I second guess just about everything. I even second guessed writing about my second guessing things. In any case, when the chorus asks: “How do I get myself to say what I want to say?” I feel like it’s pretty relatable… it is to me anyways… and maybe it is to you, but I don’t want to be presumptuous. It’s probably best if you listen for yourself and decide.

Sommerlad adds: “As a child, I used to stay up late at night in my room to work on music with my four-track recorder I got as a gift from my aunt. I still do the same thing today, recording here in my apartment, mostly at odd hours. The technology has improved, but the methodology is more or less the same.”  His newest LP, Polly’s House, is now available everywhere.
