Sianon - “New Number”
UK-born, Melbourne-based singer-songwriter Sianon has returned to us with “New Number,” a song that explores “outgrowing someone you thought would be in your life forever.”
We have been fans of Sianon ever since she revealed “Northside,” and we are very pleased to inform you that the same, folksy vulnerability remains intact in this new one. Some remarkably raw and lo-fi sounds from an acoustic guitar get “New Number” started, setting a rather intimate vibe, perfect to serve as a backdrop for Sianon’s vocal performance.
Sianon’s voice soon emerges, maintaining the sensitivity of the instrumental, revealing a delivery that sounds as though she is in the same room as you, letting the song unfold like sharing a secret. Additional layers of vocals find their place in the sonic landscape, adding a splendid sense of depth to an already stellar recording, serving as a reason to return to “New Number” for multiple spins.
More elements are deployed as “New Number” embarks on its gradual crescendo, including some deep notes from a bass, some gloriously cinematic swells, and the distant plucks of a banjo. Percussion is included quite sparsely– just enough to provide momentum over the tarck’s magnificent bridge. Between the topnotch production and Sianon’s breathy falsetto, this is the best song you’re going to hear today.
“New Number” was cowritten with Laura Lucas and produced by Hayden Calnin– two of our blog’s frequent flyers. You can now hear the track everywhere you get your music and you can connect with Sianon here: Instagram | TikTok | Facebook | Spotify
