Salt Tree - “Kids”

From the small surf town of Margaret River in Western Australia, the indie folk acoustic duo Salt Tree have just released “Kids.” The song is a glorious reimagining of the MGMT hit from Oracular Spectacular, offering us a fresh perspective on nostalgia, childhood, and lost innocence.

Kids” opens to acoustic guitar that sets a gentle, stripped-back cadence. The intimate tones are filled with both warmth and melancholy. As the track progresses, more layers are thoughtfully applied. A kick drum gives a steady heartbeat, helping to push the composition forward. Warm, subtle piano and an unfussy bass line grow the dynamics whilst the sounds of banjo weave melodically.

Salt Tree play with these layers, allowing intimacy to permeate over the verses. During the chorus sections, the track spreads its wings into something more anthemic. This creates an irresistible ebb and flow that contrasts exquisitely from the intense energy of the original.

The gorgeous vocals perfectly capture the intimate atmosphere of the music. Expressive, breathy, and soulful, the entire performance is imbued with a genuine sense of emotion. As the rich harmonising backing vocals enter, the entire composition elevates to new, enchanting heights.

Salt Tree have really knocked the ball out of the park with this one. Their cover of “Kids” is a powerful and imaginative reworking of the electronic pop classic. This one is not to be missed!
