Saint of Pine Hills

Saint of Pine Hills is a singer/songwriter from Orlando, FL. After a couple of years of playing shows and festivals around Florida and the rest of the US, he has released his first official EP: a self-titled introduction.

Love in the Time of COVID-19” starts with a short-spoken French piece, drifting into a warm instrumental. The feel is dreamy and breezy… and also intimate… I can only assume that being on an extended break from work with the one you love would sound like this. For me, this is a confident start to the EP as not everyone would feel comfortable placing an instrumental at the beginning.

Heavy Eyes” is another dreamy number. Lyrically, it reminds me a little of The Beatles' “Goodnight.” The vocal and whistling softly drifts over soft uke sounds. The space that is evoked in this track, with its use of reverb, reminds me of early Goldfrapp work. This is a decent song.

Loving is Easy (by Rex Orange County)” takes a more traditional approach musically and drifts away from the more experimental style. Vocally, it is reminiscent of a mid-1990s love pop ballad. The song works well within the context of an EP but if this was standalone, I’d be longing for more experimentation.

McD’s Drive Thru (Featuring Quinny the Foo’)” returns to the territory of more interesting music exploration, delivering a decent, laid-back and hip-hop-esque tune. The lyrics and vocal delivery are on point and enjoyable. Good work!
