ROSIE - “Good for Me”

22-year-old ROSIE is on a mission to create a safe place online, determined to ‘be real’ by not using filters: “no makeup, no bullshit.” The New York-based artist has won over the hearts of many-a-fan and earned over 30 million streams on her raw, stripped back, breakup ballad, “Never the 1,” but she’s found a spot on our blog today with her track, “Good For Me,” a predominantly acoustic gem that dabbles in the process of recovering from heartache by finding your own self-worth.

As you may have noticed, we’ve been drawing a plethora of recent releases from the vastness of the indie-folk depths. And though “Good For Me” may not be classified under this genre, it will definitely turn the heads of some folk aficionados. This is our first time hearing from ROSIE, so we will simply say that the way this track opened with a hefty dose of finger-picked guitar, it left plenty of room for her vocals to shine- and shine they did.

ROSIE has the rare gift of sounding small and contained when she wants to, but then, as listeners, we can catch glimpses of the power she holds inside of those pipes– for example, when she occasionally drops into a breathy and subtle vibrato. For the first two thirds of the song, ROSIE makes her talent known, yet refrains from completely drawing attention to it and, instead, lets the listener focus on the lyrics, which contain an import message of self-love and self-care. And though, along the way, we receive gifts of elevation through some backing harmonies, ROSIE makes us wait until the end before the crescendo at the bridge, with multiple layers of harmonies transcending, then she finishes the song just as quietly as it began.

ROSIE adds: “‘Good For Me’ is about my journey with self-love and how it took me loving and losing someone else to see that I need to find my worth within myself. The song taught me that you can’t feel joy without feeling pain too and that love isn’t linear.”
