Romanie - “Uh Oh”
Coming at you from Melbourne via Belgium, singer-songwriter Romanie has just released the introspective “Uh Oh,” a searing slice of gritty indie pop rock.
After some brief studio foley, “Uh Oh” gets started with the determined strums of an electric guitar, clean and reverberating as it pours its rhythmic foundation into the arrangement. From there, Romanie arrives with a confident vocal performance, delivering lyrics that traverse the chaotic journey of life.
At about fifty seconds deep, the rest of the band bursts into position, with the propulsion of an upbeat rhythm section that urges “Uh Oh” forward. The overall production is seemingly impenetrable, constructed with walls of thick and wooly analogue– the perfect sound to explode from the stage at any number of summer music festivals.
Elements are added and removed at will, providing a fantastic sense of ebb and flow between verse and refrain. “Uh Oh” comes complete with auxiliary vocals sprinkled into all the right places, as well as a volcanic jam session before the final throw of choruses. If you only hear one song today, let this be the one.
