Rat Palace - “Triple Tarp”

Brooklyn-based Rat Palace have just released psychedelic indie rock track “Triple Tarp.” The track offers a salacious glimpse of their forthcoming Debut LP, Dust-Free Home.

Triple Tarp” is built upon glorious, arpeggiating and hypnotic layers of electric guitar that endlessly weave. The immersive tones wash over the listener like a free-flowing river. Electric guitar also splashes rich tones of colour with rapid staccato grooves and dark, pensive layers that moodily linger. Guitar is also hazily pushed into distortion, glazing the track in a lush, experimental vibe. The song is a kaleidoscopic auditory sonic treat.

The arrangement is pushed along by a steady percussive groove which is dominated by the breezy tones of ride cymbals and hand shaker. Whilst enhancing the meditative vibes that permeate the shifting guitar layers, it also creates a sense of hypnotic energy. As the song reaches its final stages, the guitar tones begin to soar, creating a prolific contrast to the rest of the composition. This section gives a satisfying feeling of tension being released.

Equally noteworthy are the vocals that have been coated in a vivid stuttering effect. This touch beautifully heightens the trippy atmospherics.

On the track Rat Palace add: “Triple Tarp started out as a simple triplet guitar riff and ended up becoming a psychedelic rock inspired track with echoes of post-punk. The lyrics are about pride and “looking for a fight”, while the instrumentals force you to look inward... It’s provoking yet comforting, making it our favourite song from our upcoming LP Dust-Free Home.”

Triple Tarp” is coupled alongside “Toy Soldier” today as a double A-side, making this a release that packs a punch.
