Plum - “With You”

Los Angeles-based indie rockers Plum have once again returned to us with the dreamy sounds of their latest single, “With You.”

For those of you who crave an ethereal journey through a retro-infused musical wonderland, strap on some decent headphones and press that play button. Plum ease you into this number with some gentle electric keys, but they only make you wait a few bars before the emergence of a deliciously lo-fi groove. Seriously, this wonderfully blissful beast of a rhythm section will immediately conjure your fondness for Sam Evian, Slaughter Beach, Dog, and even select tunes from Air.

And we would be remiss not to include the magnificently vibey tones from the guitar, sprinkled over the top of the track like a delicate tape warble of a powdered sugar topping. The slow churns of an organ pump out a marvelous canopy as a sheen of synth pads out the entire soundscape. “With You” is the kind of track you play when you want to escape from the world, which is likely why we’ve been spinning it all day.

The vocal performance is every bit as dreamy and chill as the rest of the arrangement. It enters your ears like a benevolent tide, gently caressing your spirit without washing it away entirely. Elegant layers join the lead, offering a substantial expansion to the entire sonic experience. Combine all of this with the fact that “With You was recorded using vintage outboard gear and you have four minutes and thirty-five seconds of total aural jubilation.
