Pennyfloater - “Trumpets”

From the USA, singer-songwriter Cole McCloskey, aka Pennyfloater, has just released the folksy sounds of “Trumpets.”

The track begins with the lo-fi, nostalgic sounds of a tape deck, followed by the distant blowing of a trumpet. This vibe changes quickly, however, with the emergence of some expertly plucked acoustic guitar, played to perfection and leaving a palpable trail of emotions across the arrangement.

Upon the arrival of McCloskey’s vocal performance, it is quite obvious that he was born to sing folk songs, offering the listener some Dylan-esque insight into making sense of the world after losing someone. And it is due to this subject matter that we so often find ourselves drawn to the genre, allowing the intimate and vulnerable performance carve a path from our heads to our hearts.

Packed with some deep notes from a bass and some well-placed vocal harmonies, “Trumpets” leaves its mark on anyone lucky enough to hear it. There is simply nothing like these modern folk recordings that sound as though we’ve opened up a treasure trove of 1960s music. This tune will have you counting down the days until Pennyfloater’s new EP arrives next week.
