Paul Cook & The Chronicles - “Hello Moon”

London-based Paul Cook & The Chronicles have just released a new LP, Cheers Love, so we’ve decided to entice you with the opening track, “Hello Moon.”

Paul Cook is no stranger to our blog, as we’ve featured every song he’s sent to us, including the elegant “Somebody Else” and the superb “Passing Fad,” both from the new album. “Hello Moon” possesses many of the same qualities that we’ve come to expect from Cook, including a lo-fi and retro sounding acoustic guitar, tenderly strummed as it begins the song.

Cook utilizes a single layer of vocals here and, compared to the multi-layered performances within his other recordings, we feel that it is a delightful way to earn the trust of the listener– a personal and intimate welcoming to the LP. And although we certainly love his double-tracked method, there is a lovely sense of vulnerability occurring within “Hello Moon” that we simply cannot resist.

Some warm bass emerges, rounding out the sound and foreshadowing an approaching lift on the refrain. And once the chorus arrives, it brings with it a fantastic and luxurious rhythm, as well as those glorious, additional layers of vocals. The resulting sound will sweep you right off of your feet and while it will likely result in multiple listens, we highly encourage you to also check out the rest of the record:
