Paris Paloma - “yeti” (ft. Old Sea Brigade)

UK-based Paris Paloma finds herself on the blog with her latest release, “yeti,” a song about that sweet breath that enters your lungs after ultimately experiencing closure.

This is our first time hearing Paloma’s delicate vocal– and with over two million monthly Spotify listeners, it is blatantly obvious that our blog resides beneath a very small rock. “yeti” enters your ears immediately with its lyrics, bringing a sense of quiet urgency as you let Paloma tell her story. Her delivery is confident, though, at times, barely more than a whisper, causing you to lean into the song in order to absorb every bit of her truth.

For the first minute of “yeti,” the arrangement consists primarily of the vocal and an acoustic guitar, with some distant and soft percussive elements padding the production. That soon shifts to a much broader soundscape, thanks to a synthy string arrangement and some vocal support from Ben Cramer of Old Sea Brigade (one of our indie-folk favorites). The percussion rises closer to the top as the song begins to naturally crescendo.

With songs like “yeti,” it is definitely the emotional vocal performance that wins us over, though the subject matter should not be overlooked, as Paloma adds: “‘yeti’ is about the quiet, healing realization that comes with giving oneself closure after a relationship; when you’ve moved through a period of intense intertwinement - almost obsession - with another, and what feels like the vast chasm of time and space between that passion, and the point of indifference towards them that is reached in the healed-over aftermath.”

yeti” is perfect for the loved and unloved alike, whether entering a new relationship or swearing them off entirely, so open up those playlists and drop it in– you’ll thank us later. .
