Paris Paloma - “my mind (now)”

UK-based Paris Paloma has just released the gloriously turbulent and emotional indie pop track, “my mind (now).”

The track opens to layers of harmonising vocals that loop almost like a meditative chant. Synth layers emerge underneath, imbuing a hauntingly mysterious vibe that helps to build a sense of tension. This sense of tension is spectacularly released like an explosion as we reach the main body of the composition. The track is propelled forward by drums that lend a great sense of groove and texture. A razor-edged synth bass relentlessly drives and growls underneath with gritty and moody tones.

Woven around these elements is a triumphant sonic collage of noise, constructed of acoustic guitar, synths, trumpets, and screams. The textures feel experimental, free-flowing, and completely fearless. The vibes are incredibly reminiscent of acts like The Chemical Brothers. Paloma’s vocals are initially gentle and intimate in expression. As the song unfolds, the delivery rises up into a soulful and emotive performance. The melodically expressive vocals are simply sublime.

Paloma describes the meaning behind the track: “‘my mind (now)’ is about the BC and the AD of trauma, and what it did to my mental state, the feeling that an event was so cataclysmic that it rearranged the chemical makeup of my mind. The song is a reflection of my struggle with OCD and anxiety as a response to traumatic events, and the electrical storm of emotions that exists inside my head, filling it with noise that never seems to leave, as I search for a few seconds of respite and quiet from it. It is also about the power other people hold to set that trauma into motion, and both the fragility and strength of the human mind. my mind (now) is an embodiment of the act of creation in the form of art and writing as a coping mechanism that comes out of the overwhelming noise and chaos of the mind.”

my mind (now)” is a beautiful exploration of emotional turbulence. The song is edgy, vibrant, experimental, and gloriously soulful. We suggest getting it into your ears immediately.
