Orion Shoals - “Light It On Fire”

The Los Angeles-based indie rock group Orion Shoals have just released a really mellow and leisurely piece of music– the type of song you’d happily enjoy on a winter’s night whilst sipping a whisky near an open fire. The song, “Light It On Fire,” is not your typical, slow burner because it features some really nice musical elements that display its originality. It will make you want to listen to it again, immediately after the first play.

Folk and alternative rock are skillfully combined with indie to produce something special. The elements assemble slowly, starting with an electric guitar and a synth pulse. The lyrics are delivered in a thoughtful manner by a folk-like tone, as reversed sounds create a sense of reflection. Acoustic guitar joins to give the song an uplifting feel. Developing sleepily over a heartbeat-like pulse, the song is beautifully introspective. And there are a variety of additional sounds to keep us listening on our toes– one of them sounds like a zither, which adds a rhythmic punctuation to the atmosphere. All of these components function flawlessly. This is nice work.
