No Rules, Just Great Music

Every now and again, I plan to pop out from my musical bunker and show off some of the songs I have been playing on repeat. This first edition leans into a hazy, left-field mix of psychedelic, soul, and electronic cuts. It is the kind of playlist that will work just as well on a late-night drive as it does in the background of a slow, lazy afternoon. It’s built for listeners who don’t want one genre, but a mood.

Standouts include “When I’m Small” by Phantogram, the timeless groove of “I Can’t Stand the Rain” by Ann Peebles… yes Tina wasn’t the first to serve up the banger… and the offbeat textures of “Inkpot” by Shocking Blue. There is also a strong experimental edge with tracks like “Fail On, Phaethon” and “You Live Where It’s Cold,” both of which have been featured on the blog and have stuck with me.

The second half of the playlist leans more electronic, with tracks like “Summer,” by WhoMadeWho… a TikTok find… and a lush remix of Noel Gallagher’s “Riverman.” Meanwhile, “Burnt Sienna and Avocado” keeps things slightly unpredictable.

Press play on this slow-burning selection of slightly nostalgic, beautifully strange, but easy to sit with songs…
