Nautics - “Sunday”

New York City-based band Nautics have recently released the nostalgia-infused indie-rock firecracker, “Sunday.”

The tune begins with the full band, instantly bewitching listeners with a modern rock vibe, yet managing to glow with a warm, vintage hue. Drums, bass, and electric guitar are all present and accounted for, mixed to perfection and reminiscent of The Strokes and The Hives, though certainly original enough to stand on their own.

While the music is, indeed, most excellent, “Sunday” has completely won us over with its vocal performance. When we receive indie rock submissions, it is not uncommon for them to fall short of our expectations, vocally, so when these lyrics began entering our ears, we were in lo-fi garage rock heaven.

Around the midpoint of “Sunday,” you will find some carefully deployed backing vocals, which only add to the track’s retro fervor, truly enhancing one’s listening experience. The production permeates the sweet, creamy goodness of analogue, which greatly aids in letting us imagine it being performed live– this tune is just begging to be blasted from a stage.

There’s some savory, late-‘50s magic occurring here, and it’s very clear that the band have taken some inspiration from the legends that gave us rock n roll in the first place. “Sunday” is gritty enough to hit our sweet spot, and its steady, bouncing beat is sure to put a smile on the face of all who hear.
