Natalie - “Torment”

Natalie, an NYC producer, songwriter, and performer has just released her new single, “Torment,” which is a pop firecracker. The song has a wistful and melancholic feel, carried by a playful four-on-the-floor hook, and is definitely one that would get people dancing on a night out. Natalie's breathy and cool lead vocal floats over a bouncy bass guitar line, creating a sensual, dark feel. The lyrics quickly build to its chorus, ebbing and flowing around airy synths that drift in and out. There is some really good use of vocal effects that masterfully fill the arrangement and bring a sense of continuous change. The soundscape is atmospheric and entrancing and feels almost effortless.

The lyrics of “Torment” discuss the difficulties of being in a toxic relationship.

Natalie explains: “I started by creating the bassline, it inspired me immediately. It felt haunting yet playful and I knew I wanted to match that energy lyrically. My favourite songs are the ones that can transition you from your bedroom to a night out.”
