MVSO - “Hold Clear”

Brooklyn-based duo Mat Vairo and Saumon Oboudiyat, aka MVSO, have just released the emotive and ethereal ballad, “Hold Clear,” a striking blend of meditative and melancholic tones.

Hold Clear” is a compelling listen, thanks to the gorgeously raw and minimal arrangement. Folk and alt rock, in the style of Radiohead, are interwoven into this track’s soul. The song opens to a hauntingly introspective electric guitar riff. Acoustic guitar provides texture, as well as provides a feeling of palpable rawness. As the song progresses, subtle pads of synths are used to add complexity, lift the mood, and grow the dynamics of the arrangement.

The vocals on “Hold Clear” are the true highlight. The first vocal is in a higher register and conveys introspective emotions tenderly. The performance is gentle and gorgeously nuanced. As the lyrical story unfolds, a second vocal imbues the track with more of a soulful feel. These deeper tones are supported by the first vocal, giving a satisfying and textured harmonization.

MVSO describe the meaning behind the track: “It is a song about establishing boundaries of fairness - as much with ourselves as with others - acknowledging the transient nature of boundaries that often need to shift and adjust with different periods of our lives; breaking toxic cycles, changing your life situation to do what you love instead of slaving away doing what society deems you should be.”

MVSO’s “Hold Clear” is captivating, compelling, mesmerizing, and hauntingly ethereal. It is the first single from MVSO’s debut EP, Proprioception, slated for a Spring release.
