Morning Verses - “Many Loves”

Nashville-based singer-songwriter Morning Verses returns to us with “Many Loves,” a track that begs listeners to be mindful of the different ways that others show affection.

As we’ve come to know Morning Verses in more of a sonic sense, we have grown quite fond of his Elliott Smith/ Sufjan Stevens-esque artistic craft. “Many Loves” gets us started with an energetic rhythm pounded into the song by the raw chords of an acoustic guitar– they are strummed with a purpose, adding substantial weight to the emotion in the lyrics.

The vocal performance lends a good sense of storytelling without sounding completely contrived– it’s as though Morning Verses trusts us enough to hear his story, to experience the lesson, and to hopefully apply it to all of our future romantic encounters. And as much as we enjoy the subject matter, it’s ultimately the lo-fi, layered production on the vocals that completely wins us over.

Throughout the song’s duration, between the upbeat rhythm of the verses and delightful layers of auxiliary vocals, the arrangement, at times, adds and removes elements to create some powerful moments of ebb and flow. From a lone, Beatles-inspired organ, to bell sounds that hammer out a playful melody, “Many Loves” has something new to enjoy with each and every listen.

About “Many Loves,” Morning Verses adds: “This song is essentially about love languages and how often we let each other down when we're unaware of how someone else shows love. Ultimately, the song calls for us to "pay attention" and try to see others' efforts to show love instead of expecting it to play out exactly how we think it should be.”
