Mondo Trasho - Hard Times - All Hail the Tremolo

“Hard Times,” the new, upcoming single by tremolo rock god disciples Mondo Trasho, is an onslaught of the senses right off the bat. As soon as the drums kick in, you know you’re in for a treat. The lead singer’s soul wrenching howl compliments the stabbing organ, guitar licks & stomping drums to grab you by the collar and drag you past the bar, across the dance floor, & into the mosh pit, to jump, punch, & kick away the frustration of everyday life. Obviously, there’s a shot of despair involved in this snakebite induced frenzy, ‘cos like the band says, times are hard.

It’s a fitting soundtrack to the world’s current state of turmoil, and although the “that’s life” of the chorus shows the band has no illusions of happy endings, the line, “Change will come, but I just don’t know when,” shows a least a glimmer of hope lurks in the shadows. And although the the song may really be intended as an anthem for the suffering masses, I can’t help feeling it is also a comment on the band’s current status & their frustration as indie musicians in their endeavor to garner the recognition they deserve. And, if this is the case, I completely agree with them, because they f’ing rock.

I first got put on to these guys by wonky wordsmith & dj extraodinaire Moby Tanner, and to put it quite simply, I thought they were so good that I asked them to do a song with me (and what a song that is, if I may say so myself). They have released a trio of three track EP’s and, honestly, every single track is a banger; the three EPs combined creates the kind of album your parents would talk about in hushed tones lest you discover that they once copulated joyously on acid in a frantic sacrifice to the tremolo god. Their music stinks of sweat, poetry, and what might have been– if these guys had been playing in the ‘70s, they would be in the rock & roll hall of fame by now, & to be honest, it breaks my heart that they don’t get the attention they deserve. Fortunately, they are awesome live & have opened for the equally awesome The Heavy North, as well as headlining in their own right. If they play near you, deffo don’t miss that, it’ll blow your mind. And if you’re streaming, well, give the tremolo a chance: Hard Times, out October 28th
