Mon Rayon – “One of a Kind”

Swedish duo Mon Rayon have teamed up with Vira Milton on the orchestral sunshine pop track “One of a Kind.”

Romantic, idealistic, “One of a Kind” draws heavily on the enthusiastic and optimistic late ‘60s sounds of acts like The 5th Dimension and The Mamas & the Papas. The mood is sunlit, sophisticated and warm. It nails the immaculate and expansive atmosphere perfectly, to the extent you expect Mon Rayon and Vira Milton to emerge with fixed grins from your speakers holding pamphlets about positive thinking. Yes, it is true, this song is so well made that resistance becomes pointless.

The track does not feel performed; Mon Rayon and Vira Milton glide through it in an immaculate formation perfect for a California sky. Every harmony is polished and effortless, radiating a weightless glow. It’s the kind of delivery that makes all the rough edges of life briefly disappear.

Musically, “One of a Kind” is grandly buoyant, to the extent it could be a song from Broadway, but it never leans into something overblown or too saccharine. It holds a Bacharach-style jazz sophistication. Orchestral layers breathe lovingly with an intelligent sense of pop clarity.

Effervescent and velvety, “One of a Kind” is the title track of Mon Rayon’s debut album, slated for release this fall. The track is out now via Flak Records. Connect with Mon Rayon: Spotify | Instagram | YouTube
