Molly Millington - “Healing”

Australia-based Molly Millington has just released the powerful new indie-pop song “Healing.” With emotionally charged vocals, the song leads us on a mesmerizing journey of ever-changing textures.

The song opens to warm, acoustic guitar tones, establishing an intimate and reflective atmosphere. The first hints of musical turmoil seep in with layers of mellow electric guitar, complete with reversed sounds. These layers weave vividly as the dynamics grow. Drums are added as the song progresses, giving a sense of urgency and forward momentum. This is enhanced by a pulsating bass that punctuates the song’s groove.

Using texture to highlight emotion as the song reaches its main sections, raw and gritty guitar tones powerfully and expressively drive home the feeling in the lyrics. These sections are satisfyingly contrasted by brief dynamic breaks that underline the palpable sense of vulnerability. The vocals on “Healing” are emotionally charged, authentic, and raw. This passion is enhanced through the lush layers of backing vocals that lift the performance and provide a sense of width.

The song’s lyrics express the unfiltered, genuine hurt that is experienced during the healing process. “Healing” is a true musical journey, full of passion and emotion. The track is the final release from her debut EP, 5 Stages, which lands in November.

If “Healing” ticks all of your musical boxes, make sure you check out her driving, indie-pop banger “Foreign Accent.” The track is gorgeously stripped-back over the verses, building irresistibly to the big, catchy chorus sections. “Foreign Accent” is pushed forward relentlessly by a pounding kick drum. Chugging electric guitar rhythm provides texture whilst developing the song’s groove. As we hit the chorus, the song packs a timeless, indie-pop punch with an infectious vocal performance. The passionate, expressive vocals will get you singing along after the first play.
