Rare Monk - “Missing Forever”

Portland-based indie rockers Rare Monk arrive on the blog with “Missing Forever,” the second single from their upcoming EP. If the daily grind has got you down, this might be the anthem you’ve been waiting for, as Rare Monk draws inspiration from the feelings of being overworked and burned out.

A simple, muted guitar melody begins the tune and quickly wiggles its way into your brain. It’s not long before you’re tapping your foot without even realizing it. After only a few seconds, the entire band shows up, complete with a gentle rhythm section that meticulously urges the song forward. At this point, “Missing Forever” has a slight Real Estate or Beach Fossils kind of vibe to it. The vocals make an appearance, gently gliding through the arrangement as they describe the desperate need for a holiday.

Please do not let the innocence of the track’s first half be any indication as to what the second half will bring– because once these fellas step on their distortion pedals, the song bursts to life, saturating every available square inch of sonic space. And though “Missing Forever” could very well end up populating some mosh pits, its vibrant production is also bound to find itself inside many playlists meant to be heard alongside the future memories of the approaching summer. Give it a spin today!

And be sure to check out the video!
