Lydia Luce - “Quiet”
Nashville-based singer-songwriter Lydia Luce returns to the blog with “Quiet,” the latest single from her forthcoming LP, Mammoth.
“Quiet” begins with some melancholic piano, wrapped in thick a layer of analogue production, entering the ears as though being played right in front of you. Lydia Luce’s vocal performance soon arrives with this same, intimate weight, wonderfully revealing lines of lyrics that explore the idea of basking in “stillness and silence–” being comfortable enough with your partner to appreciate the quiet that often fills the spaces of a secure attachment.
For the first half of its duration, “Quiet” resides on a sparse and vulnerable plane of existence, gradually embarking on a slow-burning crescendo as textures of strings emerge. The rhythmic strums of an acoustic guitar eventually provide a subtle pulse to the arrangement, slow and steady as the song reaches its conclusion, ultimately revealing the most delicious hint of lead guitar.
This track will hit you right in the feels, especially if you’ve often found yourself sifting through the rubble of failed relationships– the song mirrors the unspoken wish of a love that does not spike your central nervous system. And if we are to assume that “Quiet” is indicative of what the rest of Mammoth will contain, then we truly cannot wait for its October 30 release.
