Lukka - “TomboI”

From New York City, Lukka debuts on the blog with the catchy and atmospheric electro psychedelic track, “TomboI.”

TomboI” is a curious track which has an interesting blend of mind melting futuristic psychedelia of 1970s synth driven music and the summery Motown vibes of the 1960s. It is funky, bouncing, memorable, hitting a sweet spot that I haven’t felt since Death In Vegas released the album, Scorpio Rising

For the body of the composition it pushes forward on a deceptively simple, sweet hook that beckons you to get up and move your feet or cruise in your car with the roof down late at night. The drums patter a rhythmically precise beat which creates a sublime sense of Northern Soul tension. As the choruses break the song lifts almost like a mystical, evocative hymn for the soul that wouldn’t feel out of place in a 1970s Andrew Lloyd Webber musical.

Lukka turns the tables again as we approach the final act of “TomboI.” Trippy synths arpeggiate and fizzle at the satisfying climax. Underneath is some lush, skyward textural guitar work that feels vividly Fripp-like. Vocally, we are treated to a Nico-esque spectral vocal that has an almost ritualistic elegance in its elongated delivery. The cadence is mesmerising and immersive in the best possible way.

On the track, Franzi Szymkowiak adds that “…it’s one of those songs where you have to figure out what you meant after it’s already done. I guess TomboI is about tapping into both your masculine and feminine sides—and actually loving that mix. I feel it’s also a self-celebration of my Gemini energy, leaning into that duality and just owning it.”

TomboI” is a deep and unique tune that is guaranteed to make you smile, just shut your eyes and trance out! Connect with Lukka: Spotify | Soundcloud | Bandcamp | Instagram | TikTok | Facebook
