Loose Buttons – “Sure Thing”

Loose Buttons have done it again. Their latest single, “Sure Thing,” is exactly what it says on the box, guaranteed to populate the soundscape of your late-night drive to nowhere.
After an opening burst of feedback, this upbeat serving of indie magic has a dynamite groove that has been perfectly crafted for those moments when a shot of espresso simply isn't an option. It's catchy, it's explosive, and it's made by actual human beings who obviously know their way around a recording studio.
The ingredients are of the everyday variety: guitar, bass, and drums, and the quartet know exactly how to scratch that modern alt-rock itch. From the performance to the production, “Sure Thing” packs the kind of punch that recalls some of our favorite records, from Antics to Hot Fuss, over to Is This It and back again.
Lyrically, the song is about trying to preserve intimacy while sensing it quietly slipping away. On the refrain, the rhythm slips into half time, offering a welcome burst of dynamic contrast while allowing the lyrics to settle front and center: “Talk to me now like you used to… The music's loud… I'm calling you…”
