Braden Lam - “Linen Sheets”

Halifax, Nova Scotia artist Braden Lam has completely blown us away with his new folk song, “Linen Sheets.” It begins with the single strum of an acoustic guitar, but immediately catches the listener’s attention with the lovely vocals, produced here by Lam and his wife, Fai. It is not uncommon for artists to dream of one day singing songs with their spouses, but what we have here is truly magnificent, and the magic that their voices produce when combined is quite astonishing.

To ensure that your body does not full recover from the vocally-induced goosebumps, “Linen Sheets” contains some divine acoustic guitar work and the holy grail of folk music that is lap steel. Lam’s voice alone would have been enough to earn a spot on our blog, but those harmonies have kept this track on repeat for a number of days. To add more cinematic romanticism into the mix, the two of them wrote this song during a December snowstorm while on their way to visit family over the holidays. Sparsely presented to us for most of its duration, it later brings in a full band’s worth of music, before settling back into the initial coziness of the lone acoustic. “Linen Sheets” is absolute perfection in every sense of the genre.

The artist adds: “‘Linen Sheets is about getting home from work exhausted and just wanting to spend time with your partner but you don't even get a word out before your head hits the pillow.”
