Leyton Thomas - “Screwcap Diet”

Manchester-based Leyton Thomas has just released the vintage-toned indie rock track, “Screwcap Diet.”

Screwcap Diet” feels like an old classic right from the outset. The electric slide guitar hook that introduces the song is reminiscent of a Bob Dylan or George Harrison number. It is satisfyingly good, with tones that roll reflectively and ooze an almost raw sense of melancholy. The song is gracefully pushed along at a slow cadence by the drums, while the mellotron enhances the vintage vibes. However, it is the thick bass that stands out as another musical highlight; it not only provides a solid foundation, but also exquisitely riffs, helping to further flesh out the song’s melody.

The falsetto vocal performance feels incredibly light, airy, and lush as it slowly delivers the track’s lyrics. The mellow performance has a palpable sense of vulnerability while exuding a pleasing sweetness. It really sets the track alight and also has that pleasant vibe of familiarity, like the main guitar hook. Lyrically, “Screwcap Diet” reflects on being in “the throes of an illness that makes everything else seem superficially irrelevant… wondering what really makes oneself who they are.”

Screwcap Diet,” by Leyton Thomas, is an awesome piece of songwriting that has all the vibes of a modern-day anthem.
