Lauren Curtius - “Enough”

Catharsis is a common theme in the songs that roll through this blog. And it amazes us how many artists are unapologetically open with the reasons that a song was crafted. For example, Lauren Curtius has just released “Enough,” a song that she wrote in order to heal from the post-traumatic stress that she had to endure after ending an abusive relationship. Her goal is that her music will help others to feel seen. What sucks is that there are a lot of people who could use this, but what’s cool is that it can help.

Curtius immediately caught our attention by mentioning Sharon Van Etten and the The Breeders as inspiration behind her music, which happen to be two faves over here. “Enough” begins with some shimmery guitar and a steady beat, before Curtius’ sweetly voiced vocal begins, informing her listener that she just wants “to get through the year alright… through the month… through the week… through the day…” and anyone who’s ever dealt with the lingering traumatic residue of a relationship gone terribly south will hang onto each painfully truthful word. Her overdubbed harmonies are fantastic and if you want to get all meta about it, oftentimes, it is only our own voices– our own thoughts– that can accompany us through this experience, before ultimately releasing them or letting the pain and the guilt consume us.

About the track, Curtius adds, “A lot of people don’t get what it’s like to have CPTSD. You try to talk about it but the right words don’t come out, and you end up feeling really misunderstood and alone… I wanted to honor what it was like to struggle with barely getting words out without debilitating flashbacks. It helped to not put pressure on myself or my art to do more than simply exist as is.”

This is Lauren Curtius’ debut track, so give “Enough” a spin while we all await the next:
