Laila Smith - “Diorama”

Laila Smith from the USA has just released the intimate, ethereal new indie rock track, “Diorama.”

Diorama” is one of those pieces of music that not only slips into its lush groove but also immersively bends the world around you. Beautifully airy the composition unfurls with a reflective push and pull between both brightness and shadows. Soft, slow burning the track feels like a whispered conversation coloured in the vibes of 1970s Fleetwood Mac and later Warpaint.

Opening to dusty acoustic guitar tones, “Diorama” soon finds its hypnotic stride with the steady but assertive drum groove. Brush strokes of sublimely woozy guitar lines, tender flickers of choir mellotron, elegant strings and splashes of eastern tinged instrumentation dance airily thanks to the slick use of reverb. The track is simply a treat with waves of emotion that beckon to carry you away.

Vocally, Laila Smith remains in a breathy vocal range that has the feeling of floating over the arrangement with a feather light precision. In all the right places gorgeous melodies overlap and support lifting the performance to sky high heights.

Diorama” is a mesmerising tapestry of sounds and fragile vocals. The track is taken from Laila Smith’s forthcoming EP which explores the topics of trauma, grief, sexual violence, and power structures. Connect with Laila Smith: Spotify | Instagram | TikTok | Youtube
