Kid Tigrrr – “Unsaid”
From Cleveland, Ohio, singer-songwriter Jenna Fournier, aka Kid Tigrrr, returns to the blog, searching within herself to make sense of attraction in the mesmeric “Unsaid.”
“Unsaid” is an immersive, atmospheric indie folk song that in many ways feels like a mood piece that washes over you. That’s probably due to the ambient leanings of the composition and the feeling that you are floating through an ethereal landscape. The composition is stripped back and delicate, with finger-picked acoustic guitar weaving intricate patterns whilst reverberating atmospherics paint a dreamlike world, giving the song an almost weightless, spiritual quality.
As for the vocal, it’s breathy, vulnerable, intimate and captivating. I have said this before in an earlier review of Kid Tigrrr a few years back, but I do detect strong hints of early Grimes in the haunting tones and emotional quality of the delivery. It is a performance that you can only describe as genuinely beautiful and spellbinding.
Perhaps the most interesting thing about “Unsaid” is the contrast between the music and the lyrics. It feels less like conventional indie songwriting and more like being dropped into someone’s subconscious. The words are uneasy, feverish and… at times mysterious. Moving through fragments of desire and surreal imagery like a half-remembered dream. There is a search for some hidden purpose or explanation, only to find that there is none. What materialises instead is emotion, memory, instinct, imagination and creativity.
