Irish artist Kev Olden has just released the beautifully melancholic indie folk / Americana track “Jumping The Gun.” The song is tinged with raw emotion as it depicts the story of a love destined for failure.

Jumping The Gun“ opens to hauntingly beautiful steel guitar. The sounds cascade a sense of palpable, lamenting reflection over the listener as the elegant wails rise and fall. Acoustic guitar sets a relaxed tone whilst drums enter to provide a solid, weighty foundation. Piano helps to underscore the song’s rhythm and emotion with elegant, reflective tones. Bass also appears to gently pad the song. All of these musical elements have a wonderful simplicity to their playing, never stealing the spotlight, but working together to create a lush whole.

One of the notable aspects to “Jumping The Gun“ are the well placed dynamic breaks that help to create a satisfying ebb and flow. These breaks also allow the gorgeous nuances of emotion in Olden’s vocal performance to shine. His voice is gentle yet coloured with an unmistakable sense of sadness. Over the chorus sections, the vocal is pushed into reverb, providing a glorious depth, weight, and authenticity to the delivery.

Kev Olden’s “Jumping The Gun“ is a haunting indie folk / Americana song that conveys a profound sense of heartbreak. The musical soundscapes of this track perfectly complement Olden’s emotionally charged vocal. Give it a spin.
